National won the district championship with a 5-0 shut out against Kent on June 28 at the South King County Ball Fields near Federal Way. Markus Montelongo was the star of the game for Federal Way after throwing a complete-game, one-hit shutout with 13 strike outs.

Federal Way scored three runs in the first inning and put two more on the scoreboard in the fourth.

National also beat Auburn in the semifinals, 17-5, thanks to a grand slam by Montelongo. Federal Way beat Kent in the quarterfinals, 5-4, and opened with a 12-0 win over Fife/Milton/Edgewood.

The title was the first-ever 11-year-old District 10 championship by Federal Way National Little League and the first time that a team from somewhere other than Kent or Auburn has won.

National now advances to the 11-year-old State Tournament, which kicks off July 19 at Sunset Park in Auburn. Federal Way will play the winner of a game between District 5 and District 12 at 3 p.m. on July 20.

The Federal Way National all-star team includes Max Dalrymple, Garrett Westberg, Christian Stafford, Jon Charbonneau, Justyn Ekness, Lawyer Braun, Scott Sunitsch, Markus Montelongo, Dax Wallat, Taylor Davis, Zach Nunez, Donavan Castro and Brandon Henderson. The team is coached by Tim Robbins, Tomas Montelongo and Marcus Hudson.

District 10 includes Federal Way National, Federal Way American, Steel Lake, Puyallup, Kent, Auburn, Fife, NE Tacoma, Enumclaw, Maple Valley and Bonney Lake.

• The Steel Lake Senior Little League all-star team won the District 10 championship on Saturday with a victory over Kent at Brannon Park in Auburn. The 14 and 15 year olds finished 3-0 in the four-team tournament.

The Steel Lake team include Jerrod Bachman, Jeff Edd, Sean Fogelberg, Campbell Flewelling, Mason Lapping, Erik Lindenauer, Chris Nishimura, Kevin Oyer, Travis Quackenbush, Ryan Rasmussen, Brian Thomason, Jory Tysdal, Chaz Woo, Dan Zumwalt and Tyler Zumwalt. The team is coached by Brent Edd and Jon Lindenauer.

Steel Lake will now play at the Senior Baseball State Tournament at Burien’s Moshier Park. The state tournament starts Saturday. Steel Lake will play the winner of the District 1 tournament at 7:30 p.m.

• The District 10 Junior Baseball Tournament concluded last weekend at Brannon Park in Auburn. The tournament for 13 year olds was won by Soundview Little League.

Federal Way American finished in third place after losing to Soundview in the semifinals. The American team included Skyler Beason, Tyler Bowen, Grant Burpee, Alec Dennis, Evan Elliot, Robby Gibbons, Brandon Hell, Jeffrey Lusink, Brenden Morgan, Kenneth Niles Jr., Sam Potts, Kyle Swallow and Kevin Woods. The team is coached by Ben Morgan, Harvey Markey and Randy Elliot.

Steel Lake Little League beat Auburn/Chinook in their opener before losing to Federal Way American and Bonney Lake/Sumner.

Steel Lake included Neiko Asu, Nicholas Bod, David Borden, Ryan Borden, Mark Fitzgerald, Chad George, Trevor Gradel, Hunter Henry, Ben Knapp, Travis McCauley, Chris McKinnon and Tucker Smith. The team is coached by Jim Knapp and Darin George.

The Federal Way National team dropped two straight to South Hill and Bonney Lake/Sumner. The team was made up of Dylan Wanquist, Jacob Nelson, Kaden Pigg, Kyle Robbins, Sam Hahn, Marcus Lane, Dan Ide, Noah Clow, Andrew Baghai, Mark Haver, Wally Walls, Christian DeOro, Matt Fitzgerald and Niko Gregg. The team is coached by Casey Sample, Jesse Sample and Antonio Delgardo.
