Decatur High School’s Isaiah Welker, boys cross country, was selected as the Federal Way Mirror Male Athlete of the Week for Nov. 3.
Q: What is your favorite subject in school?
A: Wind ensemble
Q: What other activities/hobbies do you participate in?
A: I am in Key Club, and I like to run and play my saxophone
Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?
A: My parents help me with support and taking me where I need to go and funding my sports and band endeavors
Q: Do you have a pre- or post-game tradition? What is it?
A: Before every meet, my teammates and I do sing-alongs on the bus
Q: Song you currently can’t get enough of?
A: The Maynard Ferguson version of “Birdland”

“Isaiah is one of the co-captains on the boys cross country team,” Gator coach Krystal Perez said. “He plays such a positive role and brings great energy to the team. Isaiah is consistently setting personal bests, and at the sub-district meet he set a personal record and beat his last time by 26 seconds, elevativing him to the fastest boy on the cross country team.”
