Decatur High School senior Jack Springer, swim, was selected as the Federal Way Mirror Male Athlete of the Week for March 11.
Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?
A: English.
Q: What additional activities/hobbies do you enjoy?
A: Hang out with friends, open water swimming, eat, and go fishing.
Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?
A: My parents and my coaches.
Q: What is the best advice you’ve been given when it comes to your sport?
A: “Surf with the waves as they come.”
Q: Describe your pre-race ritual and your favorite post-race meal?
A: Pre-race ritual: Eat oatmeal and warm up 1K yards. Post-race meal: Three deluxe burgers.
Q: Song you currently can’t stop listening to?
A: “Underclass” by King Krule.
From the sidelines: Decatur senior Jack Springer finished second in the 500 yard freestyle and fourth in the 100 yard backstroke at this year’s WIAA 4A State Championship meet. This was Jack’s third year swimming in the WIAA State Championship meet, only missing his junior year when the WIAA did not host the meet due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jack has also been outstanding in the classroom earning a 3.7 Cumulative Grade Point Average. He will be continuing both his academic and athletic pursuits as he plans work toward a philosophy degree and continue his love for swimming at a 4-year college beginning next fall.
