Federal Way High School junior Isaiah Afework, basketball, was selected as the Federal Way Mirror Male Athlete of the Week for Feb. 18.
Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?
A: Piano class.
Q: What additional activities/hobbies do you enjoy?
A: Basketball, baseball, streaming shows reading fiction chapter books and meditation.
Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?
A: My dad, Dan Afework.
Q: What is the best advice you’ve been given when it comes to your sport?
A: “Enjoy the process,” — My dad.
Q: Describe your pre-game ritual and your favorite post-game meal?
A: Pre-game ritual: Taking a nap before the game and eating some pasta and listening to music. Post-game meal: Spaghetti and meatballs.

A: “Drivers License” by Olivia Rodrigo.
From the sidelines: Federal Way High School junior Isaiah Afework is the epitome of a team player. A selfless young man who gives his all toward mental and physical aspects of the game. His teammates value his intensity at practice and during each game. Isaiah is the glue of Federal Way basketball who brings a relentless level of drive and desire to win and lead his team. His leadership on and off the court within the Federal Way community is exemplary. This Athlete of the Week award is an honor to Isaiah, but also his friends, family and coaches whose lives he has touched.
