Federal Way High School sophomore Kayla McKinley-Johnson, wrestling, was selected as the Federal Way Mirror Female Athlete of the Week for Jan. 24.

Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?

A: History.

Q: What other activities/hobbies do you enjoy?

A: Wrestling, eating food, sleeping, working out, taking advantage of my down time.

Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?

A: My parents, Rodney McKinley and Dawn Parrot. Also my club and high school wrestling coaches.

Q: The best advice I’ve ever been given by a coach is:

A: “Be prepared mentally and be confident,” – FWHS girls wrestling coach Travis Mango and coach Chico.

Q: Describe your pre-game ritual and your favorite post-game meal.

A: Pre-game ritual – Isolate myself, do a warm-up, listen to music and prepare for my match. Post-game meal – Carne asada fries.

Q: Song you currently can’t stop listening to?

A: “High Fashion” by Roddy Ricch.

From the sideline: Federal Way High School sophomore Kayla McKinley-Johnson is the No. 1 100-pound wrestler this year. To date, she is 14-0 with 12 pins. This past weekend, she won the Kelso Invite while pinning her way through the competition. She is a young and energetic wrestler who brings enthusiasm to the wrestling team and is a leader both on the mat and in the classroom.
