Thomas Jefferson High School junior Dyvhette Fonoti, wrestling, is the Federal Way Mirror Female Athlete of the Week for Feb. 3.
Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?
A: History.
Q: What hobbies do you enjoy outside of your sport?
A: Volleyball and baking.
Q: Who is the person in your life that has helped you succeed the most?
A: My family and my coaches. They always push me to be better.
Q: What is the best advice you’ve received when it comes to your sport?
A: You cannot go into a competition thinking your competitor or team is better than you, or you have already lost. You need to go into a competition thinking you can win and you will end up performing your best.
Q: Describe your pre-game ritual and post-meet meal:
A: Pre: Put head gear on two matches prior, go in with my hood on and jump around, and go through my moves in my head. Post: Burger, fries and an Oreo milkshake.
Q: Song you currently can’t stop listening to?
A: Any old-school music.
From the sidelines: On Jan. 26 at the River Ridge Rumble wrestling tournament, Dyvhette had a record of 4-0, winning all her matches by pin and coming in first place at the 190-pound weight class. Prior to the tournament, she became the champion at the 190-pound weight class at the Gut Check tournament, held at the ShoWare Center with a record of 3-0, winning all her matches by pin. Dvyhette has defeated three previous state placers.
