Decatur High School’s Ruth Magana, girls bowling, was selected as the Federal Way Mirror Female Athlete of the Week District’s Choice for Jan. 4.
Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?
A: Choir.
Q: What other activities/hobbies do you participate in?
A: I like reading.
Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?
A: My grandpa.
Q: Do you have a pregame/competition ritual or postgame tradition, and what is it?
A: I don’t really have one.

From the sideline: Decatur junior Ruth Magana was the anchor of the Decatur High School girls bowling team that defeated both Kennedy Catholic and Thomas Jefferson High School in mid-December. The Gator defeat of Thomas Jefferson on Dec. 13 was the first dual match loss for the TJ Raiders in over two seasons. Ruth knocked down 235 pins in the second game against Thomas Jefferson and was the final bowler in the two Baker Games to seal the victory for Decatur. She is also a member of the girls golf team that will continue their season in the spring in pursuit of a state championship. Ruth is an exemplary student-athlete earning a 3.9 cumulative grade point average in a rigorous college pre-schedule that includes both advanced placement and Running Start courses.
