The final pair of student-athletes to be named Athletes of the Week will be named for the week of Jan. 3.

This weeks winners are Victoria Coonradt (So. Gymnastics) and Anthony Zanders (Sr. Wrestling) from Decatur and Max Kahn (Jr. Swim and Dive) and Samiya Gildon (Sr. Bowling) from Thomas Jefferson.

From the sidelines: Victoria placed 4th in the All-Around competition at our first NPSL Gymnastics meet last week. She earned a 8.70 on Vault. She participated in the West Central District Meet and earned a Varsity Letter Award during her freshman season. Her club gymnastics experience has helped with her early high school success. Victoria has earned a 3.250 cumulative grade point average in a rigorous college prep schedule with an emphasis in medical sciences.

From the sidelines: Anthony started his season placing fourth at the Edmonds Woodway Invitational Tournament. This early season tournament includes some of the best teams from Washington and Oregon. Anthony placed 3rd at the 2024 WIAA 4A State Tournament. He is a three-year member of the National Honor Society. Anthony is a exemplary scholar-athlete earning a 3.688 cumulative grade point average, while looking forward to earning his Associates Degree and High School Diploma in June.

From the sidelines: Max Kahn is a dedicated to two things: the sport and his team. This past week, he has not only achieved personal bests and post season cuts in multiple events, but also he motivates his teammates with unwavering encouragement and support. The two things he enjoys most is helping his teammates out with their technique and bringing every single person into a huddle for team cheers.

What is your favorite subject/class in school? Leadership because that class is always so fun and chaotic, but it’s helped me with my social skills.

I would have dinner with my Nana because she was funny and I wish I could get to talk to her more about everything that has happened in my life.

From the sidelines: This past week Samyia helped the Lady Raiders win both matches. In the 1st match Samyia bowled against 240 & 216. Then in the 2nd match she bowled 178 & 173.

Her leadership has helped keep the Lady Raiders undefeated so far this season. While this is her senior season, she Will continue her bowling career and further her education at McPherson College next year. As Samyia has committed to the college’s bowling program!
