The Federal Way Knights will host teams from throughout the region in Summer Knights IV, one of the largest youth baseball tournaments to be staged in the city on a single weekend.
The tournament, which has attracted 64 teams in six age divisions, will be played on 15 fields at eight locations, including the Federal Way National Little League Complex, site of the finals Sunday.
Summer Knight IV is a 2008 Washington Games event in conjunction with the Seattle Sports Commission.
Action begins at 3:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday at selected fields. Games resume throughout the weekend, beginning as early as 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Admission is free.
Team divisions are 8U, 9U, 10U, 12U, 13U and 14U. The Knights will field teams in the 8U, 10U, 12U and 13U divisions.
A stout 12-team 14U tournament lineup includes the South Cache Stallions from Utah.
Games will be played on fields at Decatur, Federal Way and Todd Beamer high schools, Sacagawea, Illahee and Saghalie middle schools, and the Steel Lake complex.
The tournament also will have a Knight of Competition, a skills contest beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday. Players will compete in timed base running and around-the-horn events, as well as long-distance throwing and home-run hitting.
There also will be a silent auction, which be held between 3:45 and 5 p.m. Saturday at the FWNLL Complex, 500 Campus Drive SW.
Items include signed sports memorabilia, Mariners and Seahawks tickets, DeWalt power tools, restaurant gift cards, clothing, Nautilus exercise bicycle, Oakley Thumps sunglasses and more.
