Former Federal Way Eagles girls basketball player and assistant coach Chantel Dixon was named the program’s next girls head basketball coach Tuesday morning.
Dixon replaces former head coach Mike Griffin, who took the coaching job in 2015 and coached the Eagles to a 16-27 record in his two seasons.
Dixon has spent the last three seasons as Federal Way’s junior varsity coach, and she’s coached AAU basketball with Young, Educated, Athletes (Y.E.A.) the past five years. As a player, she was a part of the Eagles program that that made four state tournament appearances.
Prior to coaching, Dixon played at Western Washington and Yakima Valley Community College before deciding to focus on coaching and her career.
“It feels amazing to be the head coach,” Dixon said. “I always used to dream about this moment so to have it actually be a reality is so exciting.”
