Brian Halquist Productions announced the signing of heavyweight “Vicious” Vincent Thompson (6-0-0, KO) to a long-term promotional contract.
The undefeated Thompson, a Federal Way resident, is coming off a Nov. 13 victory over the previously unbeaten Charles Ellis, a former 2003 National Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion. The fight was held at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma.
“I’m excited for this. It’s going to be a great year,” the 27-year-old Thompson said in a news release. “Now I can just continue to focus on being the best heavyweight I can be and bring a title to Washington state.”
Thompson made his professional debut on Aug. 29, 2009, winning a four-round unanimous decision over Freddie Miller. Five additional victories followed, including wins over Ellis and Villi Bloomfield.
“Vincent has all the tools to be an exceptional heavyweight in this sport,” said promoter Brian Halquist in a news release. “The sky’s the limit for him. His fights are always exciting. He’s developed a very strong fan following. We are just going to continue to build on that.”
It has yet to be determined when the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Thompson will fight next. One possibility could be at Battle at the Boat 81 on March 19 at the Emerald Queen Casino.
“I don’t care who they throw at me. I am the type of fighter who will step into the ring with anyone,” Thompson said. “I am really looking forward to getting back in there and taking the next step.”
Halquist Productions presents Battle at the Boat 80 on Jan. 8 at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma. Light heavyweight LaFarrell Bunting (17-3-1, 17 KOs) faces Matt O’ Brien (18-1-0, 7 KOs) in the 10-round main event. To learn more, visit www.halquistproductions.com.
