Federal Way girls run by Auburn Tuesday night, 53-31

The Federal Way Eagles girls basketball team just continues to roll. The Eagles downed the Auburn Trojans Tuesday, 53-31, to remain in a virtual tie for second place in the South Puget Sound League North Division.

Federal Way (9-3 in the North, 12-4 overall) outscored Auburn, 20-12, in the first quarter and cruised the rest of the game. The Eagles, who moved up to seventh in the latest Seattle Times Class 4A state rankings, were led by the 17 points of sophomore TyShana Burgess and 16 points from senior Jacqie Evenson.

Federal Way will host Kentlake tonight, travel to Kent-Meridian on Tuesday and will take on Tahoma in Maple Valley on Feb. 6 in their SPSL North regular-season finale. Kentwood sits atop the North at 11-0 and Auburn Riverside is 10-3 in league play.

Decatur 51, at Curtis 37

The Gators overwhelmed the Curtis Vikings Tuesday night to remain in a tie for fourth place in the SPSL South. The win improved Decatur to 7-5 in league and 7-8 overall.

Against Curtis, the Gators jumped out to a 27-18 lead at halftime and built a 47-28 lead entering the fourth quarter. Decatur was led by 13 points each from Sarah Quantz and Yonnie Coleman.

The Gators will take on the league-leading Graham-Kapowsin Eagles tonight on the road, host Beamer Tuesday and travel to Bethel on Feb. 7 for their final SPSL South game of the season.

at Kentwood 61, Jefferson 46

The Raiders just couldn’t hang with the top-ranked team in the state Tuesday night. The Conquerors (11-0, 15-0) outscored TJ in the first quarter, 25-11, and led, 37-19, at halftime.

The Raiders were led by Hannah Kiyohara and Stacy Albrecht. The twosome combined to score 38 of Jefferson’s 46 points during the loss to Kentwood. Kiyohara finished with 24 points and Albrecht had 14. The Conquerors were led by the 13 points of Kylie Huerta.

The loss drops the Raiders into fourth place in the SPSL South with an 8-4 record.

at Bethel 40, Beamer 25

The Titans (3-9, 3-12) scored only eight points in the first half Tuesday in a loss to Bethel. Beamer was led by the 11 points of sophomore Shyla Akins.
