The Federal Way girls basketball team moved into second place in the South Puget Sound League North Division with an impressive 57-31 win over the Kentridge Chargers on Tuesday night.
The win improved the Eagles to 5-2 in the North and 10-3 overall. Kentwood sits atop the division at 7-0. Federal Way will host Kentwood on Tuesday.
Kentridge (4-3, 6-7) came into the game in a tie with the Eagles for second place. But Federal Way took control from the opening tip. The Eagles outscored the Chargers 11-6 in the first quarter and led 28-14 at halftime. Federal Way continued to pour it on in the second half, led by the 15 points of junior Jacqie Evenson. The Eagles had a total of nine players score, including 10 from freshman Talia Walton and eight from seniors Briana Bennett and Ivanca Frerichs.
The Thomas Jefferson girls improved to 9-5 overall and 3-4 in the North with a 53-35 win over Decatur on Tuesday. The Raiders limited the Gators (0-7, 1-10) to single-digit scoring in the first three quarters and led 35-20 entering the fourth.
The Raiders had 11 players score and were led by the 10 points of Unique Taufa’asau. Jillian Rasmussen and Sofia Malamura both chipped in eight points. Decatur was led by the career-high 18 points of senior Courtney Goss.
Beamer picked up its second SPSL South win Tuesday over Emerald Ridge, 55-47. The Titans were led by the 21 points of senior Mikki Akins and improved to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the South.
Gymnastics
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders scored a season-best 168.2 points during a sweep of Auburn Riverside, Federal Way and Capital on Wednesday. Jennifer McCreery
won both the balance beam (9.3) and floor exercise (9.45) and finished third in the all-around (34.15).
Desiree Minnie finished second in the all-around (35.05) behind Auburn Riverside’s Rebecca Turnbow (36.75). Minnie finished second on the bars (8.4), floor (9.4) and vault (8.4).
Federal Way’s Lydia Berger was third on the vault (8.35).
Swimming
The Todd Beamer Titans rolled over Puyallup Tuesday, 105-78. The Titans picked up a pair of individual wins from Kyle Christensen in the 100 butterfly (57.93) and 500 free (5:46.20) and Kyle Cassinerio in the 100 fre (56.05) and 100 back (1:04.15).
Federal Way dominated Kent-Meridian on Tuesday, 135-48. Cameron Moak won the 100 free (50.80) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.37) and Shane Elliot won the 50 free (25.31) and 500 free (6:53.40).
