With the start of the school year and football season, large crowds are expected at Memorial Field beginning with the first game of the season Sept. 4.

When parking lots were reconfigured at Federal Way High School last year to accommodate construction crews, enough parking was preserved to meet parking needs during the school day.

However, the parking lot reconfiguration eliminated some parking for Memorial Field events. A plan was developed to accommodate the overflow parking from these events on the Federal Way High School campus.

The plan is to direct cars that aren’t able to park at Memorial Field to the parking lots on the north and east side of the school.

There will be additional event personnel and district security to direct visitors through the campus. There will be more lighting provided in the north and east lots, to further encourage visitors to park there.

This year, There will be expanded efforts to better communicate with event attendees, especially visiting teams and spectators who are not as familiar with the Federal Way High School campus.

The plan is to provide a map of the campus and communicate the addition of lighting and security ahead of time.

More signage will be provided and staff to direct visitors around and through campus.

Parking for Memorial Field will be limited at least through the upcoming school year while contractors finish the south end of the building. Fall and spring sports, like football, soccer and track will draw the largest crowds.
