Both the Decatur Golden Gators and the Federal Way Eagles had quite the time at the Bill Harris Invitational on April 29 at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
The Eagle girls crushed their 24 other competitors, combining for a total team score of 119, while the boys took seventh with a combined score of 45.2. The Decatur girls finished 13th (14.5), while the boys took 16th (13).
Josephine Akinlosotu had back-to-back wins in the long and triple jumps, while both relay teams, comprised of Veronica Black, Kemi Akinlosotu, Kayley Cruz, Makiya Worthy and Rebecca Tetu, also had back-to-back wins. Esther Brutus easily won the 300-meter hurdles.
The boys 4×100 relay team of Eric Jones, KJ Ridders, Treyvon Davis and Marcus Eubanks dominated the race for the top finish.
Freshman hurdler Tyrasia Haeup-Woolfolk had the top finish for the Decatur Golden Gators. She finished second in the 100 hurdles. She also finished fifth in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump.
After finishing sixth in the discus, Decatur’s Isidore Utu bounced back to take third in the javelin. He also took eighth in the shot put. Freshman sprinter Christopher Santana-Suarez finished sixth in the 100.
In addition to the top finishes, Decatur put two of their potential stars on display in the meet, freshmen Gwen Garcia and Emma Hazenberg. Garcia competed in the long jump and finished 22nd in the event. Hazenberg competed in the triple jump and took 20th, 14 spots behind her fellow freshman teammate Haeup-Woolfolk.
Daniel Hylton, also a freshman, took fifth in the high jump for the Golden Gators, his only event on the afternoon.
