District 10 all-star Little League tournaments up and running

It’s that time of year again.

It’s time for the little leaguers of Federal Way to take center stage at postseason all-star baseball tournaments around South King County.

The marquee event kicks off July 9 at Sunset Park in Auburn. The 2010 District 10 Little League All-Star Tournament for 11- and 12-year-old boys and girls includes all nine teams from Federal Way, Kent, Bonney Lake, Puyallup and Northeast Tacoma. The tournament ultimately culminates at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., in August.

Steel Lake, Federal Way American and Federal Way National little leagues will be vying for the District 10 championship. Federal Way National opens up July 9 at 6 p.m. against Soundview Little League from Northeast Tacoma and Federal Way American will take on Auburn, also at 6 p.m.

Steel Lake opens their tournament at 9 a.m. against South Hill Little League on July 10. All three games are in Auburn.

The Steel Lake Little League All-Star team includes Brycen Allen, Mason DelaCruz, James Fitch, Christian Jones, Ethan Phelps, Jalen Prather, Matthew Roybal, Garret San Luis, Alex Sommerfield, Ty Sonnenbeld, Gabe Togia, Jaret Wick and Michael Ziccarelli.

The Federal Way National team includes Kaden Jacobs, Andrew Ellingson, Tanner Knapp, Jacob Barden, Mitchell Grant, Sean Kim, Brady Robic, Tyler Swanson, JJ Asinas, Jake Perdue and Tyler Sheedy. The team is managed by Tim Robbins and coached by Brandon Robbins.

Federal Way American’s roster includes Ben Koler, Jeffrey Cochran, Bridger Armstrong, D’Jimon Jones, Michael Sellers, Edwin Arciaga, Czaralle Gallapon, Calvin Turchin, Dawson Bakker and Lawrence Tokioka. The team is managed by Lance Koler and coached by Mike Cochran.

In other tournament action:

• The Federal Way National Little League girls fastpitch team finished up in second place at the 2010 District 10 Majors All-Star Tournament, which concluded Tuesday at Brannan Park in Auburn.

National dropped the championship game to Chinook Little League, 3-2. During the game, Gennie Summers threw five solid innings, keeping the powerful Chinook bats quiet most of the game. But the National bats were held silent by a trio of Chinook pitchers.

National got their chance in the top of the sixth inning. Down 3-0, the girls put two runs across, but with two outs and the bases loaded, the tying run was thrown out at the plate.

In their opening game, National beat Fife/Milton/Edgewood/Soundview, then lost to Chinook, 13-3, to fall into the consolation bracket. National then used the pitching of Aleah Adams, Dani Ward and Summers to beat Fife/Milton/Edgewood/Soundview again, 14-4.

The team included Madison Magruder, Hannah Davis, Alex Haven, Morgan Vance, Alexis Smithwick, Tricia Hultman, Aleah Adams, Gennie Summers, Dani Ward, Tivona Tinsley, Emily Sanchez and Sam Simundson. The team was managed by Tom Magruder and coached by Gary Haven.

• The Federal Way American Junior League all stars played in the championship game of the District 10 Tournament Friday night at Brannan Park in Auburn (after press time). The 13 and 14 year olds include Mitchell Garza, Jay-J Jones, Renne Jones, Christian Lindbom, Andrew Maertins, Austin Noteboom, Mustaffa Niazi, Joe Potts, Branden Shires, Mitch Stewart, Kyle Tanemura and Matt Walls. The team is managed by Bob Clinton and coached by Nick Clinton, Jerry Stewart and Matt Jones.

The winner of the District 10 Junior Tournament will advance to the state tournament, which is slated for July 17-25 at Medical Lake High School in the Spokane area.

• The Federal Way National 9/10 year old all stars finished in third place at the District 10 Tournament, which concluded June 22 at the Federal Way National Complex.

The team included Ayden Adams, Tommy Davis, Michael Fitzpatrick, Quin Hanson, Tyler Houston, Conner Keene, Gavin Knapp, Brandon Niksich, Mason Pirio, Ben Ray, Kyle Russell, Austin Stafford and Tate Wallat. The team was coached by Kevin Fitzpatrick.

• The Steel Lake 10/11 year old all-star team finished in fourth place at the District 10 Tournament, which concluded June 27 at the Federal Way National Complex.

The team included Hunter Bowman, Tyler Carroll, Justin Cater, Alex Evenson, Keenan Fraser, Bailey Griffith, Derek Keyes, Bodan McGraw, Blake Null, Austin Pauls, Talen Velarde and Kyle Williams. The team was managed by Jason Cretti and coached by Nate Bowman.
