Local athletes were able to sign their letters of intent to play for college programs starting Wednesday, and Thomas Jefferson Raiders shortstop Mason Delacruz wasted no time.
Delacruz signed his letter of intent to play college baseball next year for the Washington State Cougars Wednesday evening.
“I’ve looked forward to this moment for a while now,” Delacruz said. “I love the coaching staff at Wazzu, their facilities are amazing, and the whole experience there looks pretty cool.”
Delacruz hit .400 with eight RBIs and seven steals in 24 games as a junior last year.
He received an offer from the University of Washington but was also recruited by Seattle University.
Delacruz said it was the first impression of Cougars head coach Marty Lees that sealed the deal on his decision. He’ll make his official visit to Washington State as a signee this weekend.
“I fell in love with the coaching staff,” Delacruz said. “What they told me, how they saw me fitting into the program to make me a better player, was really cool.”
Todd Beamer senior Mallorie Post also signed a letter of intent on Wednesday. She’ll play volleyball next year at Colorado State-Pueblo.
