The Decatur Golden Gators snapped their three-game losing streak Tuesday.
With a combined 67 points scored by it’s starters, Decatur showed signs of improvement during its 87-76 win over Todd Beamer at Decatur High School.
The Gators (2-3, 1-1) were led by senior Tanner Rees’ 21-point performance, 15 of which came in the second half. He also chipped in with two rebounds and an assist.
The Decatur win ended the Titans’ (5-1, 3-1) five-game win streak, but Beamer point guard Ste’fun Singleton led all scorers with 25 points.
The Gators converted 34 shots during the win. Decatur coach David Choi said the win meant a great deal to the program because of the difficult start to the new season.
“I’m just thankful. Our guys worked so hard tonight, they didn’t quit,” Choi said. “Despite a three-game losing streak, our guys have come practice dialed in and ready to go and it showed.”
Senior forward Devon Kelley was one rebound shy of a double-double. He finished the night with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Decatur will continue its homestand at 7:15 p.m. Friday as it hosts Auburn Riverside.
