BRIEF: Gonzaga women, Kaczor Berry back in the Sweet 16

Jodie Kaczor Berry and her Gonzaga University women’s basketball team is headed to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season.

Berry, a 1997 Federal Way High School graduate, is in her ninth year as a member of the Gonzaga staff and fourth as the top assistant. Kaczor Berry served as the coordinator of women’s basketball operations for the Bulldogs for two seasons prior to being promoted to an assistant coach role in the summer of 2005.

Gonzaga (28-5) will take on the No. 2 seed University of Kentucky Wildcats at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 25, in Kingston, R.I. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

As a player, Kaczor Berry earned four varsity letters at Western Washington University. She finished her career as WWU’s career leader in three-pointers (210) and free-throw percentage (81.9) and earned All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference honors in 2001 and 2002.

Western Washington posted a 95-24 record during Kaczor Berry’s four-year career and four trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament with a final four appearance in 2000.

In high school, Kaczor Berry led the Eagles to a state championship in 1997. She was married to Eric Berry in July 2005 and they welcomed their son Tyson in 2010.
