The Federal Way Eagles are scoring points at an astonishing rate these days. The No. 1-ranked Eagles closed out the South Puget Sound League North Division Friday night with a 103-48 blowout win over the last-place Tahoma Bears.
The win moved Federal Way to 18-2 overall and 14-2 in the SPSL North and into a tie with the second-ranked Kentwood Conquerors for the division championship. The Eagles and Conquerors, who split their two regular-season meetings, will play at 8 p.m. at Auburn High School Tuesday night (Feb. 10). The winner will earn the North’s top-seed to the SPSL Tournament and the loser will be the second seed. The winner will play SPSL South champion Decatur at 8 p.m. at Auburn Saturday night and the loser will play Curtis (SPSL South No. 2) at 4 p.m. at Auburn Saturday.
Friday night’s win over Tahoma (1-19) was the third-straight game that the Eagles have scored more than 93 points. Federal Way tallied 99 in a win over Kent-Meridian and 93 in a victory over Kentlake.
The Eagles jumped out to a 24-6 lead after the first quarter, but outscored the outmanned Bears, 38-8, in the second quarter to take a 62-14 lead at halftime.
Junior forward Cole Dickerson had 22 points and 11 rebounds, and senior point guard Michael Hale finished with 12 points and 12 assists. Federal Way junior Isiah Umipig had 16 points and seniors Jemini Davis and Andre Barrington both scored 12 points.
at Decatur 65, Bethel 48
The third-ranked Decatur Gators (15-1, 18-2) finished their regular season with a 65-48 win over Bethel Saturday night. The Braves (6-10, 7-13) actually led 26-20 at halftime, but the Gators outscored Bethel, 45-22, in the third and fourth quarters.
Decatur was led by the 17 points of senior Marcus Tibbs, 15 from sophomore Jerron Smith and 11 from junior Jordan McCloud.
Beamer 72, at Graham-Kapowsin 57
The Titans (9-7, 10-10) jumped out to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter and cruised against the Eagles Thursday night in their SPSL South Division finale.
Beamer got 23 points from sophomore Napa Mefi, 14 from Kevin Davis and 13 from Vlad Aficiuc.
The Titans, who had already secured the South Division’s fifth seed, will take on the Auburn Riverside Ravens at 6 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson High School Friday night at the SPSL Tournament. The Ravens (8-8, 11-9) finished fifth in the SPSL North.
