The Federal Way Eagles girls basketball team got back into South Puget Sound League South play with a 61-39 win over Graham-Kapwosin Tuesday. Federal Way (8-2 overall, 6-1 SPSL South) had nine player score and were led by 17 from Raven Benton.

The Eagles also finished 2-1 at the Coeur d’Alene Invitational Holiday Classic at North Idaho College last week. Federal Way’s only loss came in the title game to Coeur d’Alene High School, 80-36, on Dec. 29.

The Eagles downed Post Falls (Ida.) and Davis of Yakima in their first two games of the tournament.

Federal Way couldn’t get anything going against Coeur d’Alene. Both teams lost in their respective state championship games a season ago. Coeur d’Alene jumped out to a 51-21 lead at halftime and just kept building the lead in the third and fourth quarters.

The Eagles were led by 12 points from Darah Huertas-Vining and eight from Dyesha Belhumeur.

Federal Way downed Davis Wednesday, 61-52, thanks to three players in double figures. Belhumeur and Benton both finished with 11 points and Jamie Jones chipped in 10.

Huertas-Vining finished with 27 points during a 49-38 win over Post Falls on Dec. 27 and was the only Eagle in double figures.

Decatur — The Gators (4-4 overall, 1-0 SPSL 3A) opened up SPSL 3A play with a 52-48 overtime win over Peninsula Tuesday at home. Decatur outscored the Seahawks, 8-4, in overtime to seal the win.

The Gators were led again by A’yesia Rogers, who finished with 22 points. Rogers is averaging an impressive 20.0 points a game this year and has been in double figures in every one of Decatur’s games.

The Gators also picked up a non-league victory over the Hazen Highlanders Dec. 30 night at home, 47-36. Senior A’yesia Rogers had another huge game for Decatur. The 5-foot-9 forward finished with a game-high 23 points and was the only Gator in double figures.

Beamer — The Titans (4-6 overall, 2-5 SPSL South) were beaten by Rogers Tuesday night, 73-60. Megan Huff finished with 23 points and Meghan Graf poured in 18 for Beamer, who trailed 58-35 after three quarters.

Jefferson — The Raiders (4-7 overall, 2-5 SPSL North) lost 50-39 to Auburn Riverside Tuesday. Christina Kullberg led TJ with 11 points and Nyanda Preston chipped in 10.

The Raiders also lost a non-league contest Friday to the Puyallup Vikings at home, 56-46. The Vikings led 38-26 after the first half.

Jefferson was led by 11 points from Kullberg and 10 from Jada Piper.

Boys Basketball

Beamer — The Titans (7-3 overall, 6-1 SPSL South) picked up a huge 70-49 win over Rogers Tuesday at home. Beamer outscored the Rams 24-10 in the fourth quarter. Thomas Rhodes led three Titans in double figures with 18 points. Roosevelt Jones finished with 15 and Juwan Flowers chipped in 13.

Federal Way — The Eagles (6-3 overall, 6-1 SPSL South) tallied 25 points in the third quarter to beat Graham-Kapowsin Tuesday, 48-33. Sophomore Deonte Anderson led the way with 19 points and Brayon Blake finished with 10.

Decatur — The Gators (7-4 overall) opened up SPSL 3A play with a 59-35 win over Peninsula Tuesday in Purdy. Abraham Ferrell-Logan led Decatur with 17, Dom Hunter and Markus Rawls both tallied 14 points.

The Gators also took home the tournament title at the Bill Riley Communities Holiday Classic Dec. 29 with a hard-fought 54-53 win over Thomas Jefferson in the championship. The four-team tournament was played at Decatur and also included Cascade and Central Kitsap.

Against TJ, the Gators outscored the Raiders 29-23 in the second half to overcome a five-point halftime deficit. Decatur was led by the 17 points of Hunter and 15 from Rawls. Jefferson got 17 points from Daryon James and 11 each from Joshua Duckworth and Kendall Green.

Decatur blew away Cascade Dec. 28, 66-39, to earn the championship game appearance. Hunter finished with a game-high 26 points and Abraham Ferrell-Logan ended up with 18.

Jefferson (5-5 overall, 3-4 SPSL North) beat Central Kitsap Wednesday, 57-47, thanks to 15 points from James, 11 from Green and 10 points from Pekedey Ren.

The Raiders got back into SPSL North play Tuesday with a 71-50 win over Auburn Riverside. Danny Park led five players in double figures with 20 points. James finished with 16, Green had 12, Jacob Thoreson had 11 and Duckworth chipped in 10.
