The Decatur Gator boys basketball team remained in control of the SPSL 3A Division with a pair of wins Tuesday and Wednesday. The Gators (12-4 overall, 6-0 SPSL South) fought past Auburn Mountainview, 73-68, and downed Bonney Lake, 55-37.

Against Auburn Mountainview Wednesday, senior guard Dom Hunter finished with 30 points for Decatur. Jason Young tallied 13 and Abraham Ferrell-Logan chipped in 12.

Tuesday’s win over Bonney Lake was never really close. Hunter finished with 15 points and senior Markus Rawls added 13 for the Gators.

The wins set up a battle for the league championship Tuesday night against the Lakes Lancers. Decatur downed the defending state champions on a last-second shot by Rawls in their first meeting of the season, 55-54, at Decatur. The game will be in Lakewood.

Federal Way — The Eagles (8-4 overall, 8-1 SPSL South) remained in first place in the SPSL South with a rugged double-overtime win over Spanaway Lake Tuesday, 74-70.

Federal Way led by seven after the third quarter, but Spanaway Lake fought back to tie the game at the end of regulation. Sophomore Brayon Blake led the Eagles with 26 points, Deonte Anderson had 24 and D’Londo Tucker tallied 17.

The Eagles are playing without point guard DeeShawn Tucker, who suffered a head/neck injury during Federal Way’s loss to Seattle Prep on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Tucker hasn’t received a doctor’s clearance and could be lost for the season.

Jefferson — The Raiders (6-9 overall, 4-8 SPSL North) needed overtime to beat Mount Rainier Tuesday, 59-57. The Rams come back from a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

Jacob Thoreson led the Raiders with 21 points and was the only TJ player in double figures.

Beamer — The Titans (10-4 overall, 9-2 SPSL South) remained one loss back of Federal Way in the SPSL South title race with a 57-56 win over Bethel Tuesday.

Senior Thomas Rhodes led Beamer with 19 points, Luscious Brown added 14 and Roosevelt Jones chipped in 11. The Titans will host Federal Way on Monday night.
