Former Federal Way High School basketball star Morris Anderson will be back playing another season for the Bellingham Slam in the International Basketball League.

Anderson, a 6-foot-3 guard, will be one of seven players returning for the Slam, which captured the 2012 IBL championship last July.

For the Slam, Anderson ranked second in scoring with 21.4 points per game and first in assists with 6.4. He captured the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award thanks, in part, to a league-leading 58 steals and was also a All-IBL selection. Anderson was also named Most Valuable Player of the IBL title game after scoring 29 points in the team’s win over Portland.

The IBL is a professional basketball league based in Vancouver, Wash., and includes teams from Washington, Oregon, Canada, New Jersey, Florida and two from Japan. Players only make about $50 a game.

Anderson graduated from Federal Way High School in 2005 and was the Mirror’s All-City Player of the Year as a senior. Anderson scored an impressive 16.2 points a game, and also led the Eagles in assists, 3-pointers and steals.

He then went on to play at Highline Community College and Western Washington University. As a senior, Anderson averaged 14.7 points, 5.2 assists and 2.5 steals for the Vikings.
