The Federal Way Eagles rolled through the two Auburn schools in the South Puget Sound League North Division Thursday and Friday. The Eagles (9-5 overall, 7-4 SPSL North) got an impressive pitching performance from TJ Horsfall during a 4-3 win over Auburn Riverside Thursday and blew away the Auburn Trojans Friday, 16-5.
The two wins moved the Eagles into second place in the SPSL North behind unbeaten Kentwood (10-0).
Against Auburn Riverside, Horsfall threw a complete game and allowed only eight hits in his seven innings of work. He struck out four. On the offensive side, Federal Way got a 3-for-4 day and two RBIs from Drew Cratsenberg and Darian Moran finished 2 for 4 with a run.
The Eagles pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of some shoddy defense by Auburn Friday afternoon. Federal Way tallied six runs in the third, five in the fourth and four more in the seventh.
Terin Beck finished 3 for 5 with four RBIs and a double, Elliot Morris ended up 2 for 4 with three runs and Nick Tanielu was also 2 for 4 with three runs for the Eagles. Morris also threw a complete game against the Trojans, allowing six hits and four earned runs. He struck out six.
In other baseball action:
• The Thomas Jefferson Raiders (9-4 overall, 6-4 SPSL North) snapped a three-game losing streak Friday with a 16-1 pounding of the Kent-Meridian Royals in five innings.
The Raiders got two RBIs and a home run from Jeff Brigham, Austin Campbell and Dylan Cooper. Brigham finished 2 for 3 with a home run, Campbell was 2 for 4 with a home run and Cooper was 1 for 2 with a homer. Nathan Baughman finished 2 for 3 with a double.
Cooper also got the win on the mound for the Raiders, throwing three innings and allowing only two hits.
• The Todd Beamer Titans (6-8 overall, 4-7 SPSL South) dropped their third game in a row Friday. The Titans were no hit by the Emerald Ridge Jaguars and lost 11-0.
The game was a pitcher’s dual until Emerald Ridge exploded for all 11 of their runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Jaguars pounded out 12 hits. Emerald Ridge’s Bryan Burgher threw the five no-hit innings, striking out seven. Matt Bower took the loss for Beamer.
The Titans also lost to Graham-Kapowsin on Thursday, 6-1. Beamer only had four hits against the Eagles. Brett Oyer finished 1 for 3 with a double.
• The Decatur Gators (2-12 overall, 2-9 SPSL South) were shut out Friday by the Bethel Braves in five innings, 10-0. The Braves tallied seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game. The Gators had only two hits during the contest.
