Baseball: Federal Way, Morris win a pair of slugfests; Thomas Jefferson remains one game behind Kentwood

The Federal Way Eagles baseball team bulldozed their way to a pair of big-time wins Thursday and Friday over a pair of solid teams. The Eagles downed Kentridge , 13-10, and followed the next day by out-hitting Kentlake, 15-11. The wins move Federal Way to 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the South Puget Sound League North Division.

The Federal Way Eagles baseball team bulldozed their way to a pair of big-time wins Thursday and Friday over a pair of solid teams.

The Eagles downed Kentridge , 13-10, and followed the next day by out-hitting Kentlake, 15-11. The wins move Federal Way to 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the South Puget Sound League North Division.

Although both games were slugfests, Thursday’s game against Kentridge was even more so. The two teams combined to hit seven home runs on a windy day at Federal Way High School. The Eagles finished with five home runs and only 10 total hits on the day.

Elliot Morris finished 2 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs and TJ Horsfall finished with a home run and four RBIs. The Eagles also got homers from Brett Evans, Austin Webber and Adam Yunker.

Morris had another huge game against Kentlake Friday in Federal Way. Morris finished 3 for 3 at the plate with four RBIs and also picked up the win on the mound. Morris already has five home runs and has 12 RBIs in his last four games.

The Thomas Jefferson Raiders remained one game back of the Kentwood Conquerors in the SPSL North standings with an 11-4 win over Kentridge Friday. The win improved the Raiders to 5-1 in the North and 8-1 overall.

Jefferson exploded for six runs in the top of the first inning and hung on in Kent. Brett Fitzgerald finished 2 for 4 with a run, two RBIs and a home run and Travis Quakenbush was 2 for 4.

Senior Jeff Brigham was 2 for 5 at the plate and also picked up with win on the mound by going four innings and allowing four hits and four runs. Brigham has already signed to pitch next year at the University of Washington.

Top-ranked and unbeaten Puyallup scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to get by Beamer, 6-2, Friday afternoon. The loss dropped the Titans to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the SPSL South. Beamer’s Jeff Apigo finished 2 for 4 with a double and RBI.

The Decatur Gators (2-9 overall, 2-6 SPSL South) were no-hit Thursday by the top-ranked Puyallup Vikings during a 14-0 loss. Puyallup pitcher Matt Becker struck out nine in his five innings of work.
