The Todd Beamer baseball team lives to play another day. The Titans squeaked past the Mount Rainier Rams Thursday afternoon at the South Puget Sound League Tournament, 5-4.

The game, played at Heritage Field in Puyallup, pitted the two fifth-place finishers from the SPSL North and South divisions in a loser-out, winner-to-district contest.

Beamer (13-8 overall) broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning by tallying the game-winning run. Blake Randazzo threw the seventh inning for the Titans and picked up the victory on the mound.

Up next for Beamer is the Rogers Rams in the opening round of the West Central/Southwest District Tournament. The Titans and Rams will play at 4 p.m. at Heritage Field on Tuesday in a loser-out game. Rogers finished sixth in the SPSL after losing, 10-0, to Auburn Riverside Thursday. Beamer swept Rogers during the SPSL South regular season.

The top-eight finishers at the 16-team West Central/Southwest District Tournament advance to Regionals.

Against Mount Rainier, the Titans jumped out to a 4-0 lead with single runs in the second and third innings, and two in the fourth. But Mount Rainier battled back to tie the game at 4-4 with a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Offensively, Jarred Prather finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Lawyer Braun was 2 for 3 with a run and triple for Beamer.

Decatur — The Gators (13-9 overall) lost in extra innings Thursday to the Hazen Highlanders, 5-3, at the SPSL 3A/Seamount League Tournament. Hazen, the champions of the Seamount League, scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Decatur.

The Gators now advance to the 3A West Central/Southwest District Tournament as the SPSL/Seamount fourth seed to play the third seed from the Narrows League in a loser-out game at 4 p.m. at Tacoma’s Heidelberg Park on Tuesday.
