The Thomas Jefferson girls fastpitch team dropped its first game of the season Friday to the Auburn Riverside Ravens, 1-0.
The Raiders (5-1) had no answer for Ravens pitcher Amanda Fitzsimmons. The senior, who is bound for the University of Washington, allowed only three hits and struck out 17.
TJ pitcher Jessica Dickson suffered the loss while allowing only six hits and one run. Christi Bruin finished 1-for-3 with a double. The Raiders return a bulk of their team that played at the 2008 Class 4A State Fastpitch Tournament.
Beamer (3-0) remained unbeaten on the season with an 8-3 win over Curtis Friday. The Titans’ Emma Blauser allowed five hits in seven innings to pick up the win. Leah Choi finished 3-for-3 and Sarah Petosa was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Boys soccer
The Thomas Jefferson Raiders moved to 2-0-2 on the season with a 1-0 win over Kentwood on Thursday night. The Raiders’ only goal came from Chris Miller in the 37th minute on a pass from Amos Nistrian. Brian Bosshart picked up with shut out in net.
Beamer moved to 3-1-0 with a 6-1 win over Bethel Friday night. The Titans got a pair of goals from Troy Peterson and Ugo Okoli. Peterson also had two assists.
Decatur (1-2-0) picked up their first win of the year Friday over Graham-Kapowsin, 5-2. The Gators got a pair of goals from Austin Nuss and a goal and two assists from Dominique Dismuke.
Federal Way (1-2-1) was shut out 3-0 by Kentlake Thursday in Kent.
Baseball
Federal Way (2-3) tallied five runs in the fourth and fifth innings to down Decatur, 6-1, Friday at Decatur. Drew Cratsenberg and Nick Tanielu both had two hits and two stolen bases and TJ Horsfall finished 1-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases.
Decatur’s (1-4) Matt Elya was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Beamer (3-2) lost a heart-breaker to Curtis Friday. The Titans took a 5-4 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but Curtis tallied two runs to get the win. Beamer’s Kelvin Ketchum finished 3-for-3 with a double.
Jefferson improved to 3-2 on the season with a 7-4 win over Auburn Riverside Friday. Drew Staples threw five innings and struck out nine to earn the win. Harold Adams finished 2-for-4 with a double for the Raiders.
Girls Tennis
Thomas Jefferson (2-0) remained unbeaten with a 4-1 win over Kentlake Thursday. Averi Kitsch and Mackenzie Qualls won a tough three-setter, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles and Carli Kitsch and Krista Nakamura both won in singles’ action.
Decatur (1-1) dominated the Emerald Ridge Jaguars Thursday, 4-1. The Gators’ singles players, Sarah Lin and Salina Schugarts, both won their matches, 6-0, 6-0.
Track
Jefferson sophomore Kayla Adams won the shot put and the discus at the prestigious Kent-Meridian Invitational Saturday at French Field. Adams won the shot put with a meet-record throw of 38 feet, 3 inches, and won the discus with a throw of 100-3. The meet included 26 teams and TJ finished third behind Tahoma and Enumclaw.
