Athlete of the Week: Winter Break Edition Pt. 1

As students return home for winter break, The Mirror, in partnership with Federal Way Public Schools still wanted to recognize athletes for the Athlete of the Week award.

To keep it even between schools, The Mirror and FWPS decided to name two athletes this week from Todd Beamer and Federal Way and will name two athletes from Thomas Jefferson and Decatur the week of Jan. 3.

This weeks winners are Timaje’ Johnson (Sr. Basketball) and Lauren Williams (So. Flag Football) from Todd Beamer and Cohen Vongsady (Jr. Wrestling) and Meeghan Meagher (Sr. Basketball) from Federal Way.

From the sidelines: Timaje’ is an amazing person, teammate and scholar around Todd Beamer High School.Timaje’ always greets everyone in the morning with a smile and a good morning. He has a very easy-going laid-back disposition, but gives you everything he has on the court. Timaje’ is averaging a double double through our first four games; 10 points and 10 rebounds. It has also been really fun watching him play alongside his younger brother Jeremiah, who is playing starter minutes and contributing in many areas on our team.

From the sidelines: Lauren has demonstrated leadership on and off the field. Her presence on the team had provided a strong foundation of winning and dedication to a newly formed sport. All team members appreciate her outstanding play and commitment to the team.

From the sidelines: Cohen Vongsady is having an impressive start to his season at Federal Way High School! His dedication to both his sport and his teammates shines through in his leadership role as captain of the boys wrestling team. With five early season wins, including victories over tough competition, Cohen is setting the bar high for his team. Beyond his athletic achievements, his mentorship and positive influence on the growing FWHS wrestling program show his commitment to fostering a supportive team environment. His head coach’s praise speaks volumes about Cohen’s character and work ethic, highlighting how he’s not only a skilled wrestler but also a dependable and coachable leader. It’s clear that Cohen’s contributions go far beyond just his performance on the mat—he’s an integral part of the team’s success, both on and off the mat. The program is lucky to have such a dedicated athlete and role model in their ranks.

From the sidelines: Meeghan Meagher is truly deserving of being named Athlete of the Week for a variety of remarkable reasons. Her work ethic is second to none, whether she’s competing in sports or putting in the effort during practices and games. Meeghan is known for giving her all in everything she does, showcasing dedication and a relentless drive to succeed. What truly sets Meeghan apart, however, is her excellence beyond athletics. She maintains stellar grades, proving that her hard work extends to the classroom just as much as it does on the field or court. Additionally, Meeghan’s kindness and grace make her an incredible individual. Her positive attitude and respect for others leave a lasting impression on everyone she meets. In every aspect of her life, Meeghan embodies the qualities of a true role model, making her an inspiration to her peers and a well-rounded athlete.
