3 Federal Way athletes win track and field state champion titles

Isaiah Davis and Esther Akinlosotu take home state titles in 100M Dash; Cassandra Atkins becomes Triple Jump champion.

Three Federal Way High School athletes became state champions and several athletes became state placers at the recent Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) State Track and Field Championships on May 26-28.

On the track, Federal Way dominated the boys and girls 100M Dash with Isaiah Davis placing first with a sprint of 10.81. Esther Akinlosotu took home the champion title running an 11.96 finish.

In the 100M Dash Ambulatory, Decatur’s Jalen Black took fourth with a time of 14.58. Black also placed second in the Boys 400M Dash Ambulatory with a personal record time of 1:07.8.

Sam Wah of Federal Way took sixth in the 4A Boys 110M Hurdles with a time of 15.80.

Isaiah Davis took second in the Boys 4A 200M Dash with a time of 22.06.

For relays, the Boys 4A 4x100M team of Austin May, Isaiah Davis, Roman Hutchinson and Jaylon Jenkins from Federal Way placed second with a time of 42.53.

In the 4A Girls Triple Jump, Federal Way’s Cassandra Atkins won a state title with a jump of 38-01.50. Federal Way’s Esther Akinlosotu placed second with a jump of 38-00.25.

In the 4A Girls High Jump, Federal Way’s Karma Walker placed seventh clearing a 5-foot jump.

For the 4A Girls Long Jump, Federal Way’s Cassandra Atkins placed second jumping 17-08.50 and Esther Akinlosotu placed third jumping 17-07.25. Decatur’s Maya Kunz-Taguchi placed sixth with a jump of 16-09.50.

In the 4A Boys Triple Jump, Federal Way’s Jaylon Jenkins placed second with a jump of 44-08.75. Federal Way’s Roman Hutchinson placed fourth with a 44-01.50 jump and Julian Gene Fortin placed fifth with a 43-02.50 jump.

In the Boys 4A Long Jump, Federal Way’s Roman Hutchinson took fourth with a jump of 21-04.25.

For the 4A Boys Shot Put, Decatur’s Zechariah Siva placed tenth with a throw of 47-05.00. In the 3A division, Todd Beamer’s Malik Agbo placed tenth with a throw of 46-02.25.

Overall, the Federal Way boys team placed second with 51 points. Lake Stevens High School took first with 58 points. The Federal Way girls team placed fifth in state with a total of 44 points. Curtis High School placed first with 68 points total.
