Decatur High School’s Tom Cunningham made the most of his final high school swim meet.

The senior brought home a pair of individual medals Saturday night at the Class 4A State Swimming and Diving Championships inside the King County Aquatic Center. Cunningham finished with an ultra-impressive second place in the 100-yard freestyle and ended up fourth in the 200 free. It was his fourth straight trip to the state championships.

Cunningham’s performance in the 100 free final was more than impressive. During Friday’s preliminary round, Cunningham swam the third-fastest qualifying time at 48.19. But he shaved over a second of that time during Saturday night’s final.

Cunningham finished behind Central Kitsap senior Seth Parker in a time of 47.03. Parker touched the wall in 46.90. Cunningham also had an impressive swim in the 200-yard free final round. After qualifying Friday evening with the fifth-fastest time, Cunningham cut close to two seconds during the final to finish fourth (1:44.85). Cascade’s Sean Nesheim won the 200 in 1:41.17.

Beamer junior Tommy Fraychineaud also brought home a fourth-place finish from the Class 4A state championships. Fraychineaud tallied 368.45 points during Saturday’s 1-meter diving finals. Bothell’s Ben Nicholas won the state title with 413.70 points. Beamer sophomore Ludomir Wanot ended up in 10th place with 303.95 points.

Snohomish won its third consecutive state team title. Kamiak was second and Richland ended up in third. Decatur’s 17th-place finish was the highest of the four Federal Way schools.

Like Cunningham, Federal Way senior Cameron Moak was also impressive in his final state meet. Moak also swam in two finals, finishing eighth in the 50 free (22.29) and seventh in the 100 free (48.85).

Other Federal Way School District individual swimmers to compete at the state championships included Decatur’s Robert Sobus (20th place in 500 free and 13th in the 200 free), Beamer’s Kyle Cassinerio (23rd, 100 backstroke) and Beamer’s Kyle Christensen (16th, 200 IM).
