The Federal Way Eagles’ five-game winning streak came to an abrupt end Friday night, thanks to the always-dangerous Kentwood Conquerors.

Kentwood tallied 21 fourth-quarter points on a rain-soaked French Field to come away with a 24-7 victory. The loss dropped the Eagles to 4-2 in the South Puget Sound League North Division and gave the division title to the unbeaten Auburn Trojans with two league games to play.

The loss also created basically a three-way tie for second place in the North between Federal Way, Tahoma (5-2) and Kentwood (4-2). The top-four teams from the North advance into the postseason. The Eagles can guarantee a postseason berth with wins in their final two games against Kent-Meridian (1-6) and Jefferson (0-7).

But Friday night Bryan Carlson proved too much for Federal Way during the fourth quarter. The 5-foot-9 running back/linebacker tallied the game-winning touchdown a minute into the final quarter on a 22-yard run to give Kentwood a 10-7 lead. Carlson also added a 29-yard interception return for a touchdown with just over a minute left in the game to finalize the score.

The Conquerors also added a touchdown with 8:07 to go when Joseph Banks went 13 yards for a 17-7 lead. That TD came five plays after Federal Way’s Andre Barrington, who ran for 107 yards on 20 carries, fumbled for the second time during the game.

Kentwood scored the only points of the first half when Matt Bell hit a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter to give the Conquerors a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles got deep into Kentwood’s territory twice during the first half, but quarterback Nick Tanielu was intercepted by Darrius Coleman at the Kentwood 11. Then late in the second quarter, after a 7-yard run got the Eagles to the Conquerors’ 20, Barrington fumbled.

But Federal Way came back to take the lead on a 44-yard touchdown run by fullback George Williams. The junior broke through the middle of the Kentwood line on a fourth-and-1 and rolled into the endzone with five minutes left in the third quarter. Kelyn Rowe’s extra-point gave the Eagles a 7-3 lead.

The game was also a tough one, in terms of injuries for the Eagles. University of Washington-commit Andru Pulu suffered a right-knee injury during the second quarter, wide receiver/defensive back Nico Curran was taken away in an ambulance with a back injury and Tanielu left late in the game after a big Conqueror hit on the quarterback.

The winless Gators couldn’t hang with the undefeated Auburn Trojans Friday night at Auburn Memorial Stadium in a non-league SPSL game. Auburn senior running back Jeff Gouveia had five touchdown runs for the fifth-ranked Trojans. Gouveia had 81 yards on 16 carries for Auburn (7-0, 7-0).

Decatur cut the Auburn lead to 14-7 with a first-quarter 55-yard fumble return by Jordan Flowers. But Goiveia tallied two second-quarter touchdowns to put Auburn up 28-7 at half. Decatur senior quarterback John Duncan paced the Gators (0-7, 0-7) with 185 yards passing and two touchdowns. The first was to Cam Schilling on a 21-yarder in the second quarter and Conner McFaul caught an 11-yard touchdown pass in the fourth.

The Gators take on Graham-Kapowsin Thursday night at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

The Royals’ won the battle of the two winless teams in the SPSL North Thursday night at French Field. Kent-Meridian’s (1-6) Artise Gauldin ran for 284 yards on 19 carries and scored five touchdowns. Gauldin had touchdown runs of 41, 10, 73, 59 and 19 yards. The Royals led 28-0 after the first quarter.

Jefferson’s (0-7) lone touchdown of the game came in the second quarter on a 13-yard pass from Kama Frank to Spenser Sydney.

The Raiders will take on the 6-1 Curtis Vikings in a non-league game Friday night at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

Bethel 55, Beamer 10

The Bethel Braves (4-3) rolled out to a 41-0 lead at Federal Way Memorial Stadium Saturday night over the winless Titans (0-7). The Braves got three touchdown runs from Antony Meray and two from Isaac Winters.

Beamer’s only touchdown of the night came on a 6-yard run from Lamar Williams in the third quarter. The Titans’ also got a fourth-quarter field goal from Zach Hoffman.

The Titans will play Rogers Friday night at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup.
