Forwards
Ernan Roman, Jefferson
The senior was huge for the South Puget Sound League champion Raiders during their stretch run. Roman finished as Jefferson’s leading scorer with nine goals during the season. But most of those goals came at critical times. Roman tallied six goals during a crucial four-match streak at the end of the regular season, including two each during a 3-0 win over Federal Way on May 2 and a 2-0 win over Kentridge on May 8. He will play next year at Highline Community College.
Dominique Dismuke, Decatur
Dismuke was the Gators’ go-to player during the entire season. He led Decatur to an 8-5-3 record in the SPSL South, which was two points away from qualifying for the postseason. Dismuke tallied 14 goals and five assists and had four mulit-goal games. He tallied both of the Gators’ goals during a 2-0 win over the SPSL South champion Rogers Rams April 1. It was Rogers’ only loss during the regular season. Dismuke was a first-team, All-SPSL South selection by the league’s coaches.
Ugo Okoli, Beamer
The Titan sophomore already makes his second appearance on the Mirror’s All-City Soccer Team after a huge year for the Titans. Okoli’s 22 goals led the area and he also chipped in nine assists for Beamer, who finished second in the SPSL South before losing at the West Central District Tournament. Okoli scored a goal in 14 games, including a pair of hat tricks. One of his hat tricks came during a 3-0 win over Decatur on the final day of the SPSL South season May 8. Okoli was named the co-Most Valuable Player of the South Division by the league’s coaches, along with teammate Troy Peterson.
Midfielders
Austin Nuss, Decatur
The first-team, All-SPSL South Division selection was a big-time playmaker for the Gators. From his midfield position, Nuss tallied seven goals and dished out seven assists. He also scored two goals twice in a game during the season.
Troy Peterson, Beamer
The Titan sophomore proved again to be one of the most talented soccer players in the area with a tremendous 2009 season. He was named the co-SPSL South MVP, along with teammate Ugo Okoli, after scoring 15 goals and dishing out 14 assists for Beamer. Peterson had six multi-goal games, including a pair of hat tricks. He also had three games with two or more assists.
Chase Hanson, Jefferson
Hanson was the man in the middle for the SPSL champion Raiders, who finished with an 11-2-3 record in the North Division. The midfielder tallied three goals and three assists for Jefferson. Hanson, the son of TJ head coach Dave Hanson, was a first-team, All-SPSL North selection.
Chris Miller, Jefferson
The TJ senior finished second on the Raiders with seven goals and four assists from the midfield position. Miller’s goal-scoring ability proved huge for TJ during a crucial four-game stretch at the end of the season. Miller tallied six of his seven goals during those four games, which included wins over Kentwood, Auburn Riverside, Kent-Meridian and Federal Way. Miller has signed to play soccer in the fall at the Evergreen State College in Olympia.
Defenders
Lenin Ramirez, Jefferson
The senior proved to be one of the best defenders in the SPSL, anchoring the Raiders’ defense that allowed only 16 goals in 18 matches. Ramirez also tallied a pair of goals and dished out one assist during the season. One of his goals came on a penalty kick during TJ’s 3-2 win over Rogers in the SPSL Championship match. Ramirez will play next season at Highline Community College. He was also a first-team, All-SPSL North selection and a member of the Seattle Times’ Star Times Soccer Team.
Jordan Hale, Beamer
The senior anchored the back line of the Beamer defense during his entire career. This season, Hale earned first-team, All-SPSL South honors as a defender. It was the third time Hale was honored as a first-team selection. He had two goals and three assists during the season, including a huge goal during a 3-2 win over Puyallup late in the regular season. Hale will play in the fall at Highline Community College.
Kevin Olsen, Federal Way
The senior defender for the Eagles was a second-team, All-SPSL North selection by the league’s coaches following the season. Olsen led a Federal Way defense that was bombarded all season long because of a lack of offensive firepower. The Eagles finished 2-11-3 in the SPSL North and had only 11 goals in 16 matches.
Goalkeeper
Ben Draeger, Beamer
The junior had a very good year in goal for the Titans this season. Draeger finished the season with six shutouts and was a first-team, All-SPSL South selection.
