The following is a recap of election endorsements by The Mirror’s editorial board. Note: the board did not address every ballot measure.

Ballots for the all-mail general election are due by Nov. 8. A ballot drop-off box is available on 8th Avenue South adjacent to City Hall. To learn more, visit kingcounty.gov/elections.

Candidates and initiatives

• Federal Way City Council position 3: Roger Flygare. Today’s economic climate calls for experience in the real business world. As a small business owner, this experience gives Flygare an edge.

• Federal Way City Council position 5: Jack Dovey. With economic development and job creation being the city’s top priorities, Dovey’s entrepreneurial spirit benefits Federal Way.

• Federal Way City Council position 7: Dini Duclos. Duclos brings an analytical voice that enriches the city leadership pool. She has earned another term on the council.

• Federal Way School Board position 2: Claire Wilson. The school district will benefit from Wilson’s professional experience as an educator and education administrator, coupled with a passion for early learning.

• Federal Way School Board position 3: Danny Peterson. He is engaged in school district issues will bring leadership to the board. Peterson has logged education experience in both Federal Way and abroad.

• South King Fire and Rescue commissioner positions 4 and 5: Mark Thompson and James Fossos. In regards to experience, knowledge of the fire department, and the ability to understand the issues facing the men and women in the trenches, Fossos and Thompson are the better candidates. The Federal Way area benefits from their lifelong dedication to fighting fires and saving lives.

• Lakehaven Utility District position 4: Tim McClain. After being appointed to the board last fall, McClain has earned a chance to serve a full term and fulfill his potential as a commissioner.

• Initiative 1163: Vote yes. Washington is clinging to a business model inspired by attitudes dating back to Prohibition. I-1183 puts the liquor business into the free market’s hands where it belongs, and places the state government into the proper role of enforcing the liquor laws. Will Costco and other retailers make tons of money? Yes. Will the citizens of Washington and Federal Way benefit financially from these changes? Guaranteed.
