On Jan. 6, 2012, the Federal Way Mirror will change delivery dates to Fridays. This change is necessary to continue to give you the best possible coverage of the Federal Way community while taking advantage of the economies of scale that Sound Publishing has been building over the past couple of years with other newspapers in our company.
Additionally, it will enhance our ability to stay profitable so that we may continue to provide you with the news and advertising you have come to expect from us. While we will drop one of our print production days, we will add to our ever-expanding coverage of online news and real-time information for this community. Look for this information at federalwaymirror.com.
What will you see?
The same quality of news and advertising that you expect. The editorial department will continue to produce a product that is top-notch, accurate and a direct reflection of this community. We will produce a number of stories each week for the print edition, including any breaking news that falls within our deadline schedules. Anything outside of this window will immediately be posted to our website along with all of the stories from the week’s print edition. The advertising team will have longer deadlines to produce award-winning ads that will enhance your reading pleasure and give you the opportunity to see what merchants and companies in the Federal Way area have to offer.
More timely city and school news. We will continue to cover the city and school board meetings. You will now receive the news from these meetings a day earlier on Friday rather than on Saturdays as they are currently published.
A continued commitment to local sports. When local sports are played on Thursday through the weekend, we will preview the bigger games in our print edition. After these games end, look to our website for the postgame scores and analysis.
You will still receive the inserts and coupons you have come to expect. Look for these now on Fridays rather than some on Wednesdays and some on Saturdays.
All of your city legals, and community obits will continue to be printed. In addition, the obits and legals will be posted online.
All of your favorite columnists and political satire. Now they will all be published on the same days and will fight for print space. That should be fun.
Our commitment to the environment. Each of our editions will be displayed in its original print form posted directly to the web in an easy-to-read format. Consider this a lasting collection of every edition that we produce moving forward. We have started to do this now. Look for this at federalwaymirror.com/green_editions.
What you will not see?
Any less news coverage. We will continue our coverage of Federal Way like you have come to expect from us over the years. It will just be in one print edition or online depending on what day the story breaks.
Any less dedication to this community. We will strive to be your community steward as a public watchdog, community calendar aggregate, editorial sounding board and marketing and distribution company. The health of this company and this community depends on this. We will make sure that you receive what you want in a timely and efficient manner.
As always, I am here to answer your questions. Let me know your praises, concerns or any attention to detail that we could be doing better at tips@federalwaymirror.com.
