In December, we asked for submissions from the public to join The Mirror’s editorial board.

This year, we have three expiring seats that opened due to term limits. Leaving the board are Matthew Jarvis, Nandell Palmer and Amye Bronson-Doherty.

During the submission process, there were a number of community advocates who applied. This number was narrowed down to six, and these six met with the board for additional questions and comments. In February, the board selected the three finalists. These three new members will serve two-year terms beginning March 5, 2013.

The newest board members are:

• Bob Case. Case lives in Federal Way and has trained college journalists for the past 10 years at The King’s College in New York City. He has a passion for newspapers and believes that the art of writing and good solid reporting is becoming a lost art. Case graduated from the University of Washington and was a former news announcer for KGDN/KBIQ.

• Don Hyun. Hyun grew up in Federal Way and attended Thomas Jefferson High School. He is a husband and father of two sons and has a vested interest in the community and schools. He has served on various boards and has an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is a consultant in the high-tech industry.

• Joan Tornow. Tornow has lived in Federal Way with her family since 1997. She is a volunteer on numerous local boards, a volunteer in the Federal Way Public Schools, and a mentor in Communities in Schools. She is a published author and has a Ph.D. in education.
