People need a dose of reality

What flavor Kool-Aid are people drinking?

The mayor and council imposed a tax on Lakehaven Water and Sewer District to supplement the city budget. If the council and mayor weren’t spending money like drunken sailors, they wouldn’t even have a shortfall. Former Mayor Skip Priest left the city in good shape with a sound financial footing. But now, every project gets spent long before the money arrives.

People demand their right to speak their mind but insist Sen. Mark Miloscia can’t speak his. That’s absurd. The senator has exactly the same rights that everybody else does. I, for one, met with Sen. Miloscia in his office in Olympia after a very long day in Olympia. He was kind enough to stop at Panera Bread to talk to me. When I write Rep. Mike Pellicciotti, I always get lots of political smoke and mirrors back, never anything of substance. And Rep. Kristine Reeves: I caught her trying to lie to me. Since then, I have sent her numerous phone messages, letters and emails. She won’t even give me the courtesy of an answer, even after over 40 requests for replies. She works for taxpayers. We don’t work for her.

As for teachers carrying guns in classrooms: Nobody wants that, not even President Donald Trump. But common sense says police could be delayed with a call of active shooter. Toppenish schools have solved the problem. In Toppenish, students are taught personal responsibility and consequences for actions. Every school has armed administrators present. Toppenish also teaches kids through the NRA Eddie Eagle Program. If kids find a gun they don’t touch it, and they call a responsible adult. Maybe that’s the problem — not enough responsible adults on this side of the Cascades.

I have to agree with Leo Thoennes. Gun-free zones are a stupid idea. If somebody doesn’t like guns, they shouldn’t buy one. But those signs: liberal nutjobs. Why don’t you have a gun-free zone sign in your window?

Mr. Roegner, take the man’s crack pipe away from him. His commentary in the March 9 edition of the Mirror was the dumbest thing I have ever read in my life. The man has, from what I read, no concept of reality.
