I believe Keith Livingston hit the nail on the head in his column (Will Federal Way residents accept change?, April 6) describing some past and present residents of Federal Way. Over the years those who do not want change to occur here have often impeded or stopped progress in our community. Many of the same people will complain that we have a stagnant business economy and there is nothing to do in Federal Way. Well this summer, that is about to change.
Keith’s interview with Tim Johnson, our city’s Economic Development director, revealed that we have an exciting summer of events coming up.
Do you want your children or grandchildren to be interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)? From June 21 to 23 bring them to the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. The International Underwater Robotic Competition will be held there.
Do you want to be proud of your community? Starting June 29 Federal Way will be a host city for the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics movement. Venues in our community will be Celebration Park, Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center and Town Square Park.
Do you want to take your family to a baseball game? On July 22 the 16-A Girl’s USA Fast Pitch National Championship will be at Celebration Park.
To Tim Johnson, Parks Director John Hutton and all those past and present citizen cheerleaders for the city of Federal Way, thank you, for making all this possible.
