Got election fever in Federal Way? Here’s your prescription.

Filing week for candidates officially ended June 11. First stop on the local election train is the Aug. 17 primary, featuring four candidates for elected mayor and five candidates for the vacant state House seat. Also on the ballot: A service benefit charge proposed by South King Fire and Rescue intended to supplement a lower collection from property taxes.

The Mirror is committed to keeping Federal Way residents informed about election issues and candidates. Stay tuned for public debates and forums this summer. Candidates will also receive questions about their goals, with an opportunity to print their answers on these pages in the coming weeks.

Cure for election fever

Thank you for trying Federal Way’s elected mayor, an all-purpose medication intended to cure the most severe election outbreak.

Active ingredients: Political fevercodone, elected leadershipamine.

Directions: Take one dose of elected mayor. Wait four years. Results may vary. Side effects may include itching, headaches, dizziness, nausea, sweating, heart palpitations, nasty advertisements, bold headlines and campaign sign clutter. For adult use only. Exceeding recommended dosage may lead to conspiracy theoritis. If contact with candidates occurs, shake hands thoroughly. Prolonged attacks on the candidate(s) you don’t like may cause confusion, loss of coordination, slurred speech and loss of credibility. Do not mix this medication with alcohol, especially if your candidate loses. Do not take rectally. If medication is smoked, then go listen to Pink Floyd. Expect moderate to heavy bickering within the first four to six weeks after election. Call a newspaper immediately if you experience hallucinations of progress or an increased appetite for civic involvement.

Also available without a prescription in the following varieties:

• Romance edition: Spice up the action with love letters that focus on the issues. This variety has been scientifically formulated to avoid portraying your favorite candidate as a victim, and to minimize hate mail toward the rest. Free sample of political Viagra included.

• Grass-roots flavor: Two great tastes together at last. We take that traditional cough syrup taste and shake it up with a concentrated blend of today’s political zeitgeist in America.
