Randal (Randy) Lee Dinehart passed away in Rescue, CA, on April 24, 2013, at the age of 59.
Randal is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Jan Elaine Dinehart. They were married in Portland, Oregon, on June 11, 1988.
Randal is lovingly remembered by his mother Carol Olsen and stepfather Albert (Ole) Olsen of Federal Way, WA; his father Lee Dinehart and partner Barbara Rolfe of Tacoma, WA; sister Karen Dinehart of Shoreline, WA, and niece Rita Allen of CT; sister Kathleen (Allan) Beveridge, niece Rhianna,
and nephew Nathan, of Lavington NSW, Australia; sister Lynda (Larry) Fetter and nephew Jacob of Federal Way, WA; sister Jeanne Dinehart of Bellingham, WA, and nephew Jeffrey. Randal is also lovingly remembered by his many aunts and uncles.
Randal had a special bond with the Olson family of Federal Way, WA, and will be fondly remembered by Jan Olson and her daughters, Karla Jo Tupper and Kristin Walker, and their
families. Randal was predeceased by Larry Olson, who was his loving guide and mentor.
Randal was born in Tacoma, WA, on April15, 1954. He graduated from Federal Way High
School in 1972 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Washington in 1977. He attended the University of Minnesota for post graduate studies. Randal was passionate about his career as a Research Hydrologist for the U.S. Geological Survey. He was a devoted civil servant for 33+ years. He was one of the first technical responders at the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980, and built his career around the studies he conducted at the Cascades Volcano Observatory in Vancouver, WA. He concluded his career at the USGS office in Sacramento, CA, working on studies of the Sacramento River/San Francisco Bay delta.
Randal was an excellent and creative writer, avid reader, and had a lifelong passion for writing and performing music, especially rock and jazz.
A memorial service will be held for Randal at the Calvary lutheran Church at 2415 S. 320th St., Federal Way, WA, on Saturday June 1, 2013, at 3:00p.m., with Pastor Lori Cornell officiating. A reception will be held after the service, with details to be providedat the service.
