Jon Warren Waldorf passed away in Tacoma, Washington, after a lengthy illness.
Jon was born to Irma and Eric Waldorf in Portland, Oregon. He attended Jefferson High School before studying at Linfield College and the University of Alaska at Fairbanks and earning a degree in geology from Oregon State College. Jon was married to his childhood sweetheart, Audrey Daum, who called him the love of her life.
Jon served as an Army officer at Forts Benning, Bragg, Rucker, and Lewis and received aviation training that led to his becoming an air route traffic controller in Auburn, Washington, a position he held for 21 years.
With woodworking a lifelong hobby, Jon applied his skills to building the family home in Tacoma and a beach house in Ocean Park, Washington. With Audrey, Jon was an active member and elder at Marine View Presbyterian in Tacoma, where he volunteered at the church’s bicycle repair shop, helping to refurbish over 10,000 bikes for underprivileged children. As a soccer coach, Jon served as President of the Norpoint Soccer Association and helped establish youth soccer programs in Pierce County. He loved fishing, boating, camping, and hiking with his young family. He and Audrey shared dear friends and wonderful travels.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, sister Phyllis Kindt, and his wife. Left behind are his son Warren (Debra), daughter Lynn, son William (Carol), four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Jon and Audrey will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Marine View Presbyterian Church. Donations in their memory may be made to the church.
