A man who was a friend to everyone, Ed Sutherland, 83, courageously battled cancer for many years. He lost that battle on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Stafford House in Des Moines, Washington. He spent the previous evening with his wife and his children, seeming happy and even told many “Dad” jokes.

Ed is survived by his wife Trudy, his daughter Linda and husband Bill, his sons Mike and Steve, his sister Margaret Rickett, Trudy’s son Jim Drohman and wife Sheila, son Don Drohman and partner Danny, and daughter Lori Hawk and husband Sam. He was preceded in death by parents Hannes and Grace Sutherland, and his sister, Delores Sutherland.

Ed was a proud 20 year veteran of the United States Navy, retiring in 1973 as a Dental Technician. He served in several overseas and stateside duty stations including Japan, Vietnam, and Korea.

Ed was a 30 year member of Steel Lake Presbyterian Church of Federal Way, a long-time member of the American Legion in Tacoma and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to The American Lung Association. Services to be held on Tuesday, August 14th, 3PM at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2415 South 320th Street, Federal Way, WA 98003.
