Helen Evelyn (Cowan/Helton) Skrivanek, age 86, passed away on March 12, 2019. Helen was born in Livingston, Montana on June 28, 1932 to Edwin W. Cowan and Cassie B (Buckner) Cowan/Toresdahl. She grew up in Wilsall, MT and graduated from Wilsall High School.
She married Frank C. Helton in Sept. 1951. They settled in Seattle, WA, and both worked at Boeing. After becoming a widow, she married Frankie J. Skrivanek in March 1965 and they moved the family to Kent, WA, where Helen became a homemaker. Helen was active in the Cambridge Women’s Club, led a Brownie troop, served on Consistory at Trinity Reformed, and Servants of Christ Churches. She became an excellent seamstress, sewing for her family, friends and school organizations. Helen also loved to paint, read, travel and go to theatrical and symphonic performances. Upon returning to the workforce she worked at Highline Community College as a Book Buyer. After her second husband passed away, she moved to Orting, WA, and then lived her final days in Tacoma, WA at Pioneer Place Memory Care.
She is survived by four children – Terry (Steve) Clark, Carol (Bob) Van Gelder, Robert (Mia) Helton and Gail (Kenneth) Gohrick; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren; her sisters Carolyn (Kelly) Beebe and Betty Inabnit; step-brother Lavern (Tork) Toresdahl; and many other extended family members. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 4th at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Community Church at 3807 Reith Rd. S., Kent, WA 98032. Light refreshments and visitation with the family will follow the service.
