Marvin Edward “Pudge” Berlin, 92, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and Tacoma, Wash., had the angels close his eyes on June 16, 2012, in the presence of his loving wife Laura Lee. He was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Los Angeles, Calif.
Pudge was a retired Captain and Director of Flight Operations from United Airlines. He had an amazing career with United from 1940 to 1980. He was also a member of the QB’s. Pudge was an incredible husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was also a man of many talents from Apple computers to photography, wine making to Koa wood crafting, custom golf clubs and roasting coffee, but especially caring for those he loved.
Pudge is survived by his daughter Sara Berlin, of Puyallup, John (Cathy) Berlin, of Tryon, N.C., and Robert (Brigitta) Rainwater of Santa Barbara, Calif., stepsons Greg and Jeff (Tami) Anderson and 9 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Dianne Frewin.
The family is requesting donations be made to the Humane Society, 2608 Center St., Tacoma, WA, 98409 and/or Keauhou Canoe Club, P.O. Box 390755, Kailua-Kona, HI 96739 in Pudge’s memory.
A celebration of life will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at Twin Lakes Golf & Country Club and back in Kona in February 2013.
