Duane Lewis Hammil of Milton died May 24. He was 61.

He was born Aug. 10, 1942 in Wenatchee.

He retired as a school principal in 1996, after a 30-year career in education with the Federal Way school district. After retirement, he enjoyed golf and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Bonnie, and sons Erik and John.

A celebration of his life was held June 1 at Federal Way High School.
