Dorothy Sturgis, 92, passed peacefully in her home on February 13, 2022. Dorothy was born on January 25, 1930, in Beaver, Oklahoma, to Albert and Myrtle Herren. The family, including her sister Alberta (Berta), moved west when she was young to the Kelso/Longview area. There Dorothy met William
(Bill) Sturgis and they eventually married in 1947. Dorothy and Bill moved to Federal Way in 1956 and eventually built their lifelong home overlooking Poverty Bay where they raised their four daughters.
Dorothy was very artistic. Her talents included painting, and porcelain art among many others. However, egg decorating held a special place in Dorothy’s heart. She was the founding member of the Egg Artists of Puget Sound, and participated with that group for many decades, up to the week of her death. Dorothy received many awards for her egg artistry and had displays at the Puyallup Fair for many years.
Dorothy enjoyed a large loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, a World War II POW and Purple Heart decorated veteran, and her grandson Brian. Dorothy was survived by her four girls, Pam, Sandra, Connie, and Gail, her 8 grandchildren, and her 5 great grandchildren.
Prayer for our Mom: Dear God, We gratefully thank you for giving us such a special, caring Mom. Watch over her and bless her Lord, and keep her in your care, and may she feel our love for her.
