Donald A. Jaenicke died March 2 at the age of 81. Don was born in Clayton, Mo., and graduated from Branson High School. He moved to Tacoma in 1948, and graduated from the College of Puget Sound (now UPS) in 1952.
He graduated from Naval Officer’s School, and was sent to Japan as a press officer on the Far East Command. Don married Lois Wasmund in Tokyo, Japan. He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant in 1955. In 1956, Don joined the Douglas Fir Plywood Association (now APA) in Tacoma, WA, as a publicity writer. In 1965, he left to work for Weyerhaeuser as a public affairs/marketing specialist. In 1974, he was named senior VP and new business director at Cole & Weber Advertising. Don started his own PR agency, Jaenicke Marketing Works, in 1989 and continued to serve his clients through February of this year. Don is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nancy Jaenicke, former wife Lois Jaenicke, and children: David (Alyce) Jaenicke, Lynn (Richard) Near, Roger (Mary) Jaenicke, Sara (Rae) Jaenicke, Joy (Clint) King, Mike (Jackie) Boulware, and 13 grandchildren. Their lives have been forever touched by his caring, sense of humor, and support throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul. Family was always his top priority, and he taught us all to celebrate life. Don would like to remind us that, “All the good the past hath had, remains to make our own time glad,” a favorite quote by John Greenleaf Whittier.
