Federal Way-based World Vision is loading trucks with supplies to assist the victims of a powerful tornado that ravaged Oklahoma.

At least 24 people – including nine children – were killed in the storm Monday afternoon near Oklahoma City, according to that state’s medical examiner. Ten miles south in the town of Moore, seven children were pulled from the wreckage of an elementary school.

World Vision staff members are positioning relief supplies at a domestic disaster response warehouse in Grand Prairie, Texas, according to the non-profit’s website. Supplies will assist families in the hardest hit areas, and will include emergency food kits, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, blankets and tarps.

Although known for its humanitarian work in Third World countries, World Vision is active on the domestic front. World Vision sent supplies and emergency kits to families affected by tornadoes in North Texas earlier this month.
