In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Federal Way Public Schools and World Vision are partnering to provide essential items to local scholars and families.
Beginning last week, families in need will be provided boxes with essential items prepared by World Vision. The food box includes enough non-perishable food items to feed a family of 5 for a week. The essentials box includes Clorox wipes, paper towels, World Vision hygiene kits, hand sanitizer, soap, coloring books and a school supply pack.
“We are so grateful for the continued support of World Vision, specifically their willingness to lean into our communities during this time of need,” said Dr. Tammy Campbell, FWPS superintendent.
FWPS and World Vision will staff the pickup locations at designated school sites. Over the course of four weeks, the goal is to serve 400 families in greater Federal Way community.
This plan to reach more families during the closure also includes social distancing measures to keep staff and families safe at all times.
“World Vision is excited to partner with the Federal Way School District to bring food and essential items to families in need,” said Reed Slattery, World Vision’s National Director of U.S. Programs. “We are committed to serving vulnerable children and families around the world and at home in our own backyard.”
World Vision is the largest humanitarian organization in the world serving vulnerable children and families in more than 100 countries. They receive corporate donations of new, top-quality goods made available to local community partners for distribution. The World Vision U.S. headquarters is based in Federal Way.
