The 33-year-old told police she was walking through the emergency room when a homeless man lunged from his bed

The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

Man threatens woman with sword: At 7:58 a.m. on Sept. 7 in the 1600 block of S. 348th St., a woman got into an argument with a co-worker’s boyfriend. During the argument, the man pulled out a small sword and held it in a threatening manner. However, by the time police showed up, the suspect had fled the scene and the victim refused to cooperate with the investigation. No injuries were reported.

Laptop found at park: At 9:46 a.m. on Sept. 7 in the intersection of Southwest 331st Street and 13th Avenue Southwest, police found a laptop, suitcase and jacket at a park. The officer was unable to locate an owner, nor were there any reports of lost or stolen items matching the description. The items were booked into evidence as found property for destruction only.

Nurse assaulted at hospital: At 5:21 p.m. on Sept. 7 in the 34500 block of Ninth Ave. S., a nurse at St. Francis Hospital reported being assaulted by a patient. The 33-year-old told police she was walking through the emergency room when a homeless man lunged from his bed and grabbed her left shoulder, pulling her down. He held onto her for about 30-40 seconds, causing her pain. The 53-year-old man is being treated for schizophrenia, according to the police report, and needed to be restrained. The nurse did not press charges.

Woman points gun at Jack in the Box employee: At 12:17 a.m. on Sept. 6 at 31130 Pacific Highway S., a woman knocked on the drive-thru window of a Jack in the Box and pointed a silver handgun at an employee but quickly left as a vehicle pulled through the drive-thru.

The drive-thru window was not open and nothing was taken from the employee or the store. Police could not find the suspect, who is described as an African-American female, 5-feet 8-inches tall, heavy-set build, wearing a black hoodie and a bandanna over her mouth. However, they did retrieve video surveillance of the act and noted she matched a description of a suspect from a Shell gas station robbery in Des Moines.

Drunk woman crashes into fence: At 5:19 a.m. on Sept. 6 in the 33409 block of 43rd Ave. SW, a woman was arrested for DUI after she crashed a vehicle into her neighbor’s fence. The woman, who had been drinking, had an argument with someone before she left and crashed. Her vehicle was towed away and she was given a court date.

Children steal electronics for mom: At 4:53 p.m. on Sept. 6 at 31601 Pacific Highway S., a woman walked into Best Buy with three children. The children separated from her as soon as they entered the store and left and re-entered several times.

At one point, a girl tried to leave the store with two Apple watch bands hidden in her jacket. An employee stopped the child and took the items. The children ran to the woman who was waiting outside and they quickly left. Officers were unable to identify the woman or the children, however, digital photos were taken from surveillance footage and uploaded to a case file.

Man throws jug at car: At 4:05 a.m. on Sept. 5 in the 34500 block of 16th Ave. S., officers were dispatched to a call of malicious mischief. A man had thrown a glass jug through the window of a victim’s vehicle. The suspect was not located and a criminal citation was sent to the prosecutor for filing.

Crashed drone disappears: At 12:59 p.m. on Sept. 5 in the 300 block of S. 320th St., a 52-year-old man was flying his drone from the porch of a building and crashed it near another building. The drone had a camera on it. The man walks with a cane, so he was slow to retrieve his drone. By the time he walked to the crash site, the camera was still there but the drone was nowhere to be seen. A canvas of the building’s residents was conducted with no success.

Lying girl claims homelessness: At 1:14 p.m. on Sept. 5 in an unknown block of 12th Ave. SW, a man called 911 to report a 13-year-old girl had just come to his door and claimed she was hungry and homeless. She initially told police she had been living in a school shed for a month and living with a friend.

But the girl was clean and did not appear homeless. She then admitted she was lying and unhappy with her parent’s chore assignments and denied any abuse. She also said she was unhappy with dinners her parents gave her. The responding officer released her to her parents and walked through the house to verify there was food in the house and that it was clean. The officer advised the family to handle the matter internally.

Dead woman found in apartment: At 5:53 p.m. on Sept. 4 in the 33006 block of 19th Lane S., a 30-year-old woman was found dead in her 13-year-old nephew’s home. A neighbor called 911 after she heard some kids say there was someone dead in the apartment. After police arrived, they spoke to the woman’s nephew who told them his aunt had been staying with him and his mother for several months.

He told police his mother had just left for Kansas and his aunt had just come home from the hospital. That Wednesday, his aunt had gone straight to bed after the hospital. She sleeps on a “couch bed,” and had gone to the hospital for a swollen neck. The next day, the woman spoke to her nephew about her neck and again went to bed on the couch.

As the boy woke up the next morning, he saw his aunt on the floor and thought he heard her snoring. However, when he came home from school, she was still there but he still assumed she was sleeping. He left and returned at about 5:45 p.m. and went to the couch to speak with his aunt but she did not respond. Officers saw no signs of struggle but saw an unfilled prescription for antibiotics, a treatment for neck swelling related to an infection. The woman also had asthma and diabetes. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and took over the investigation.

Dagger, meth found on shoplifter: At 4:50 p.m. on Sept. 3 in the 2200 block of S. Commons, a man was arrested for stealing $77.57 worth of merchandise from Target. During a search, police found a dagger and small Ziploc bag containing methamphetamine on the man.

Drunk man lights vehicle on fire: At 8:27 p.m. on Sept. 3 in the 28800 block of Military Road S., South King Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a vehicle fire in the parking lot of Safeway. After they arrived, bystanders told firefighters the driver of the vehicle was drinking at the Brickyard pub and had driven to the Safeway parking lot. After he parked the vehicle, he got out and began to walk away, at which point the vehicle caught fire. He then ran away from the car and fled the scene. The officer was unable to locate the suspect at the scene or his residence.

Phone stolen at football practice: At 10:11 a.m. on Sept. 2 at Todd Beamer High School, a student told police his Galaxy S6 Edge was taken while he was at football practice. The victim had left his cell phone in an unsecured locker in the locker room while attending practice. No suspect information is available.

Phone stolen from classroom: At 10:14 a.m. on Sept. 2 at Todd Beamer High School, an officer was flagged down by a student at the school for a cell phone theft. She told police she had her iPhone 6 in a classroom she was in and left it unsecured on a desk while students exited by it. As students exited the classroom, the phone was taken off the desk from one of the other students. No suspect information is available.

Man committed for snakes in pants: At 11:35 a.m. on Sept. 2 in the 100 block of SW Campus Drive, concerned citizens called 911 to report a male laying face down in the roadway. An officer contacted the man and he said he needed help and that he had snakes inside his pants.

He was escorted to the sidewalk where he was detained. He continued talking about being abducted by unknown people and that he was not trying to hurt himself, only that he knew laying in the road would get him help. His bicycle was kept for safekeeping.
