Following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:
• Suspicious stranger: At 9:21 p.m. Aug. 18 at 31515 20th Ave. S., a victim was shopping when a woman approached her and asked for cooking advice. The victim sensed her zipped purse had been tampered with and checked on the accessory. She found her purse unzipped and wallet missing.
• Burglary: At 5:51 p.m. Aug. 17 in the 30000 block of 2nd Place Southwest, someone forced open a window at a residence. The suspect was confronted by a dog, but escaped with three stolen bottles of liquor.
• Destructive shopper: At 4:58 p.m. Aug. 17 at 2305 S.W. 336th St., a juvenile knocked over a store’s displays and a donation bin after an employee asked the suspect to turn his or her music down.
• Domestic abuse: At 1:26 p.m., Aug. 17 in the 3000 block of South 288th Street, a victim reported her husband struck her in the face with his forehead. He then fled in a vehicle.
• Craigslist scammers: At 12:17 p.m. Aug. 17 in the 1400 block of Southwest 321st Street, a victim met with two suspects at the victim’s home to complete the sale of a phone. One suspect asked to see the phone, then fled without paying for it.
• Armed robbery: At 2:53 a.m. Aug. 17 in the 33400 block of 1st Lane South, officers responded to a call of a gun being discharged. They also received report of a nearby armed robbery. Officers were able to link the two crimes.
• Assault with a weapon: At 2:27 a.m. Aug. 17 in the 35100 block of Enchanted Parkway South, a victim reported he was struck in the face by a man wearing brass knuckles. Two suspects demanded cash from the victim.
• Stolen mail: At 8:05 p.m. Aug. 18 in the 35000 block of Enchanted Parkway South, a victim reported that someone broke the lock on his or her vehicle and stole the mail inside.
• Revenge assault: At 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18 in the 31000 block of 14th Avenue South, a victim reported he was hit in the head with a crowbar by a suspect who accused the victim of stealing from the suspect’s parents. The suspect stole an iPod and the victim’s wallet.
